PERFORMANCE FOR THE ALMOST FREE ART SHOW
Belfast, Northern Ireland : 1978
Incremental performance made as part of the Almost Free Art Show.
February 1978
This performance was enacted outside of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Gallery, Belfast, for periods of 3 hours at a time – twice during daylight and twice during the night.
‘Standing in the black bin, MacLennan’s contribution to The Almost Free Art Exhibition returned to the main themes of his art production: the need for art, alternative ways of making it, and the social function of art, ie how it can be critical of itself and of society.’
Text from ‘Alastair MacLennan: Is No’, ed. Stephen Snoddy, 1988.
