‘A window frame placed on the floor marked out an area in whose corner an incomplete manikin with black netting over the body and head crouched with no hope. MacLennan kept rearranging the rest of the objects, adding, taking away, putting back again. At times, he wore an artificial leg suspended in front of the body. Other times he drew gloves on tracing paper and hung these in rows on two long walls in the basement. All in slow motion.’
