EGG INSTALLATION

Belfast, Northern Ireland : 1980

Installation at the Rupert Stanley College of Further Education.

1980

This morphing installation used boiled eggs in egg cups and a ticking metronome as its material. It took place over the course of one working day.

‘MacLennan chose one dark tile on the floor. At times he arranged eggs on it. At times he scattered them elsewhere on the floor.

As if rehearsing Castaneda, MacLennan offered a strict balance between control and readiness to take on “any” relationship between objects and their function and sustained it for a time.’

Text from ‘Alastair MacLennan: Is No’, ed. Stephen Snoddy, 1988.
