PERFORMANCE

Belfast, Northern Ireland : 1978

3 hour performance in the grassy area outside of the Art College.

May 1978

‘Dressed as a walking rubbish heap, MacLennan carried the rubbish collected in the area through which he kept walking, slowly, deliberately, silently. […] Perhaps the idea of “mutilation” by the results of consuming can be recognised, next to concerns this work shares with many previous ones: the ontological and social concerns of art and artist.’

Text from ‘Alastair MacLennan: Is No’, ed. Stephen Snoddy, 1988.
